Regularization

[ reg-yuh-luh-rahyz]
noun

Regularization is a set of techniques that keep a machine learning model from overfitting, meaning memorizing its training data and performing poorly on new data. Common methods add a penalty for model complexity or randomly drop parts of the model during training.

Why it matters in customer experience

Customer requests vary in wording, language and format. Models that generalize well understand new phrasings and documents reliably, which keeps automated journeys accurate in production.
